Using ESRI ArcGIS to build Spatial Data Infrastructure.

This half-day workshop will cover the use of ESRI technology to build the technology underpinning for Spatial Data Infrastructure.

Topics that will be covered include:
  • Review of the lifecycle of geodata creation, maintenance, documentation, cataloging, analysis, publishing, discovery and user access.
  • Review of multi-tier architectures with emphasis on 3 or 4 tier architecture choices.
  • Discussion of where GIS intelligence should be built within the IT infrastructure.
  • Standing up a GIS metadata portal.
  • The IT standards and GIS community specifications that is included in ESRI technologies which enable open and interoperable SDI.
  • The role and use of GIS data models in building common essential data sets.
  • Steps in designing, building and deploying a SDI plan and a SDI portal.
  • Demonstration of SDI Portals from around the world.

The workshop will be presented via lectures, power points and GIS Portal demonstrations. Basic prior knowledge of GIS will be helpful.
